"Unnie, I've grown up well, haven't I?"
It's a barely disguised trap, and from the way Gyuri's eyes widen, she knows it. Jiheon cares for pretenses as much as she does for the actual answer—it doesn't matter if she's grown up well, but that she has grown up enough.
“Why are you asking me this?” Gyuri’s eyes stray downwards of Jiheon’s face before snapping back up, like she’s been doing since Jiheon arrived back at the restaurant in a low-cut top and didn’t wait for Gyuri to get up from her chair before bending down to hug her.
Gyuri’s hands are trembling minutely; they’d been drinking, wine glasses matching with a dinner Jiheon barely picked at before she insisted on accompanying Jiheon back home and handing her full glasses of water for sobering up. By now, all that’s accomplished is making her go to the bathroom twice in the last hour, but Gyuri is still sitting on the couch in Jiheon’s grown-up apartment, where she pays the bills all by herself.
Jiheon has fucked a girl from her university on that couch. She told Gyuri all about her over drinks, taking some sick satisfaction in the way her eyes darkened before smoothing into the familiar neutral expression Jiheon knows so well. She slides closer, bare thighs sticking to the tiled floor, and rests her shoulder against Gyuri’s knee.
“I just want to know,” she says. “Maybe we could celebrate it, too.”
The reason they drank in the first place: Gyuri’s new role in a movie with international distribution and fromis_9’s summer comeback reaching top 10 on Melon charts, with three new music show wins. Jiheon started to make up new reasons halfway through dinner, talking animatedly while slicing her food into smaller pieces she never brought to her mouth.
The weight she lost for the comeback, for one, though she worded that one as “having discipline and working hard,” and if Gyuri picked up on the true meaning she didn’t show. Promotions just ended, and Jiheon couldn’t trust that if she started eating she would know when to stop.
The wine, though. The wine was easy, flowing as nicely as the conversation. They got sillier with it: they celebrated that Gyuri bought her father the perfect birthday gift, and that Jiheon went grocery shopping instead of ordering in. Jiheon got Chaeyoung to swear on camera; Gyuri saw a dog wearing a silly hat earlier that day.
“I heard Jiheonie got one million views on a fancam,” Gyuri said before taking another sip of wine. Jiheon had worn a bikini top under a see-through shirt for that stage and winked and licked her lips at the camera, and Jiwon had loudly bemoaned the choice as the other members teased her relentlessly.
“Did you watch it?” Jiheon asked, heart fluttering, and by that point Gyuri’s cheeks were flaming red and she averted her eyes when she said no. Jiheon felt a pang of irritation, and she blamed the wine for switching that obvious lie with a truth, “I’m seeing a girl from my Child Development class. She’s smart, and she doesn’t listen to k-pop, and her parents are conservative Christians, so she’ll never tell anyone about us.”
Now, at Jiheon’s apartment, Gyuri observes her carefully. She shifts her legs, and Jiheon moves with the motion, presses her chest to the length of her shins. Gyuri inhales sharply, and Jiheon can't really be held responsible for what she does next, can she, all that wine in an empty stomach.
Gyuri’s still as a statue when Jiheon crawls on top of her, neck tense as she looks up at the ceiling, tendons standing out. Jiheons brackets her thighs, hands on the upholstery on either side of her shoulders as she lowers herself slowly. She bites her lip as she rests her full weight on Gyuri’s legs, muscles so stiff she’s more rock than person.
“Am I too heavy?” Jiheon can’t help but ask, anxiety singing. One of Gyuri’s hands raises in the air, like she’s about to comfort—like she’s about to touch her—before falling to the cushion next to Jiheon’s calf. Gyuri squeezes her eyes shut. She looks like she’s praying.
“Please, Jiheon-ah.” Gyuri says. The words sound wrenched out of her throat, and Jiheon observes the undulation of it, skin stretching as she gulps, the delicate expanse as it reaches her clavicles. The tips of Gyuri’s dark hair barely reach her shoulders; she had it cut right under her ears months ago for a previous role, but Jiheon’s only getting to see it up close now, as it grows out. “Shouldn’t you be doing this with your perfect girlfriend?”
Haein is not officially her girlfriend. Jiheon ignores her, shifts so her knees bear most of her weight, and this time, Gyuri does touch. Grabs her hips, adjusts Jiheon like a doll on top of her, fingers stoking a flame down her sides. Her eyes are tight at the corners, mouth flat, and Jiheon looks at her and remembers Haein under her, soft and willing on this very couch.
Haein really is perfect. Jiheon would love her, if she could choose not to fall for the same woman since she was fifteen.
“This is a bad idea,” Gyuri says. They're so close, Jiheon can smell the alcohol in her breath.
Gyuri's hands are still on her. She returns the favor, pushes Gyuri's shirt up so she can feel her abs like she used to years ago, this time without the pretense of showing her off for the fans. Just two drunk adults, no cameras. Unless they tell, no one ever has to know.
“Unnie,” she whines when Gyuri gasps, fingers tightening on Jiheon's hips. She rakes her nails down the soft skin of her stomach, and Gyuri spasms and almost knocks them both off the couch, lower lip white from the force she's biting it. If Jiheon didn't know any better, she'd think she was in physical pain.
“Heon-ah. Jiheonie,” Gyuri calls. One of her hands leaves Jiheon’s side, and she misses it immensely until it reappears under her jaw. Jiheon nuzzles the palm that cups her cheek, watching Gyuri's eyes travel down the gaping collar of her top to where her skirt has ridden up her thighs. She gifts her a bitter smile; Jiheon wants to see if it tastes like surrender. “Let's celebrate this—
You've grown up better than me.”
That’s not true, Jiheon thinks, but Gyuri won’t hear it. She digs her fingers into the delicate spaces between her ribs, taking delight in how the muscles jump. Gyuri gingerly touches her neck, and Jiheon knows that she thinks they have a say in this, that she can choose to walk away and make it all stop. That’s not true, but it doesn’t matter if Jiheon’s grown up well, anyway.
In the end, Jiheon has grown up hungry.

Date: 2026-02-07 04:46 pm (UTC)canonverse gyulheon *sighs happily* and it's complicated and messy and they're a bit unhappy even in all that success *sighs happily* but oh so drawn to each other and not really able to draw lines or keep up pretence *sighs happily* assertive my pace girl jiheon who knows what she wants and all that she could have and keeps choosing gyuri, after all this time.. sweet jiheon who has been an idol since she was so, so, so young, stuck in an eternal loop of hunger and wanting..
i've been having a lot of thoughts about hunger and desire lately (esp in the context of idolverse, the restriction and restraint and the wanting), so this came v timely to me in this sense too, and it's so beautifully written.. thank you so much for writing and sharing this! wow ♥♥

Date: 2026-02-09 01:06 am (UTC)jiheon who didn't have anyone of similar age on the group, having to come to terms with her own wants and desires in the public eye whilst surrounded by girls who've already been through it..... the sweet tenacious maknae who decided to debut twice.....
her apparent puppy love for gyuri is SO interesting to me like that whole dynamic is so yummy. guilty older member vs eager younger one i will eat it up every time. idk what i'm saying anymore just that i'd love to hear more of the hunger and desire thoughts and i'm so glad you liked this..... tysm
